How would you describe your art?
First, I must come clean and say that I am not a student of art, know little about technique, nor am I familiar with the works of historical artists. Plain and simple, I just “do” whatever calls me. The core of my creativity is my souls need to be free, to fly, and why I have been compared to a bird, often a Raven that cannot be caged. As an energy healer and animal communicator, I have authored and illustrated a fun little book called, "Willow Meets Hawk", about my personal experiences which are set to the fictional character Willow, all of which integrates with and is reflected in my art.
A part of my current art style has transitioned from the Soul Star Readings I previously offered through my energy healing academy. Soul Star readings are energy interpretations created with various art mediums, and always within the shape of a five-pointed star representing humanity, the five physical senses and the five elements; spirit, fire, air, water and earth. Each piece of my Snowy Feather Art, “art from my heart”, is brought to life once a connection has been established between me and my client. With the unfolding of visions and messages, the result is the completion of a unique painting I lovingly refer to as “divine” art; others have called it “channeled” or “spiritual” art.
How long have you been an artist and how did you become an artist?
We each create daily in all that we do. I believe every soul arriving into this world is creative by nature, thus, I have been an artist since birth. As a young child in school, I remember proudly bringing home my drawing of a four-legged Robin, yes, four-legged! Personally, I loved its quirkiness, but if memory serves me, I do not think my parents shared my enthusiasm.
What is your favorite medium and why?
I enjoy painting with acrylics as they were the first paints with their large array of bright colours that called to me. Occasionally, I add touches of gel pen, metallics, black ink or even Swarovski crystals. When drawing, I especially like to use black ink. Air brushing intrigues me, and it is a technique I would like to try one day.
Pick one work of art from your Art Colony portfolio and tell us the story behind it. Why does this piece have meaning to you? What steps did you take to create the piece?
In the evening of the Fall Equinox in September 2012, the painting entitled “Starry Night of the Equinox”, was created and completed. The end result of this painting reflects how the high energies of this night affected me − no conscious steps were taken. I know that I will never part with Starry Night as it is one of my favourites.
How do you make time for art?
Actually, I do not intentionally make time for art. Instead, art makes time for me. When the time is right, I get a feeling, a message, and it is at that time my art supplies go into action. This is also the case when I am doing a piece of “divine” art for an individual. I often begin “thinking” that I will use a specific colour only to experience that I am physically unable to do so. When this happens, I step back and follow guidance to an end result.
My greatest joy is gifting a piece of my work to an individual who has received a significant energy experience from a particular piece. I love how art can bring joy into another’s life.
If you could imagine the “perfect art day” for yourself, what would it be like?
This is very easy to answer. Every day is a perfect art day as art makes it so! I cannot imagine anything more perfect than when I am “called” to paint a piece. I am most grateful for this gift.
If you could spend 24 hours with one artist, living or historical, who would you want to spend the day with and why? What would the two of you do?
Lucky me! I am so blessed to regularly spend hours with my favourite artist, and without doubt the greatest artist of all, Mother Nature. She has truly painted the most magnificent masterpiece ever seen and is always an outstanding teacher. My inspiration comes from the freedom nature offers: the trees, moon and stars, a kaleidoscope of colours and worlds unseen.
I am strongly connected with the animal kingdom. My many animal friends, both in and out of form, are so valuable in my art and energy healing work. My beloved cat, Tango, who has transitioned to spirit, brought the “Tree of Love Series” as seen on my website. Recently, my sister and I were blessed to have had the opportunity to hike into the Rocky Mountains with a wolf named Flora, whose energies created a shift in me: a true gift from the Universe.
All of these are the energies I love and live for!
